Meet Dora!
Dora is a delightful one-year-old, 7.5-pound female Chihuahua mix who was rescued from a hoarding situation. She came to us from a home with 16 other dogs, including her pregnant sister who is also in our care. Since joining our rescue, Dora has undergone extensive socialization and has blossomed into a happy, affectionate companion who adores snuggling with her favorite people. She is smart, house-trained, and enjoys the convenience of a doggie door. At night, she's crate-trained but truly prefers to sleep near her humans. While she's learning to be guided indoors with a harness and leash, she's still adjusting to outdoor walks and will need a patient owner to help her explore the world outside. Having overcome a difficult start, Dora is continuing to decompress and build trust, and we are so proud of the progress she's made.
Ideal Home
Dora will thrive in a calm, quiet, adult-only environment or a home with older, quiet teenagers. She's not the best fit for homes with small children, as sudden movements can still startle her. Ideally, she would be the only dog or have one other smaller breed companion. She tends to steer clear of larger dogs, preferring the company of smaller pups.
Ongoing Health
Dora is generally healthy and has no specific ongoing health conditions to report.
Training & Support
Dora is house-trained and crate-trained for nighttime. She will need continued patience and positive reinforcement to fully adjust to outdoor walks and to build confidence in new environments. As she can be a bit of a lap hog and enjoys attention, an adopter who understands the Chihuahua temperament and is committed to ongoing training will be key to her success.
