Smokey

Smokey is a handsome 4-year-old Doberman Pinscher/Shar Pei mix who weighs about 43 pounds. He's a gentle and very sweet boy who loves to be affectionate and will be your shadow. Smokey was originally adopted from our shelter as a puppy and recently returned through no fault of his own. He's playful with people and his favorite toys are those he can tug and wrestle with! Smokey enjoys sleeping on the furniture and snuggling in bed with his people. He is treat-motivated and knows commands like "sit," "easy," and "down." He is housebroken, crate-trained, and walks well on a leash.

Ideal Home

Smokey needs a home where he can be with someone around the clock due to his high separation anxiety. An established routine will help him feel secure. While he's looking for a patient adopter, he is selective with other dogs and prefers smaller, submissive canine companions.

Ongoing Health

Smokey has allergies and requires a special diet. His skin is currently being treated with diet, baths, and fish oil.

Training & Support

Smokey is currently being treated for his separation anxiety with trazadone. He is house-trained and crate-trained, which he views as a safe space.

• Adoption fee is $200, which includes his neuter, heartworm test, current vaccines, deworming, heartworm/flea prevention, and microchip.
• Sandusky County residents are required to purchase a dog license for an additional $20.75 at the time of adoption.

Transportation

Smokey is available for adoption at the Humane Society of Sandusky County. Shelter visiting hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM, and the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Please note that same-day adoptions are not available.
