Hera is a 2-year-old spayed female pit mix searching for her forever family. She was surrendered when her previous owner faced circumstances that made caring for her impossible. Hera has been living with a dedicated foster couple who have gotten to know her well and helped her make tremendous progress. Hera thrives on human companionship and forms deep bonds with her people. She is incredibly food motivated and eager to learn. Positive reinforcement has helped her make great strides with commands and manners. Hera is full of personality and emotion - she loves hard, plays hard, and feels everything in a big way. Hera enjoys her daily walks and does very well on leash. She can calmly pass people, barking dogs, and other pets without issue, as long as she is not expected to directly interact with them. She also loves outdoor time, sunbathing, and a good game of tug-of-war. Fortunately, she is crate trained and settles well. Above all else, Hera wants to be close to her person. She is affectionate, snuggly, and happiest curled up beside someone she trusts.
Ideal Home
Hera would do best as the only pet in the home, where she can soak up all the love and attention for herself. She needs a calm, patient adopter willing to continue her training and help her build confidence. Like many young dogs, Hera has a mischievous side and will need supervision outside, as she occasionally goes searching for things she should not eat. She is also a strong chewer and will need appropriate toys and crate time when left unsupervised.
Ongoing Health
Hera is spayed and up to date on vaccinations.
Training & Support
While she can be unpredictable around other dogs due to limited past exposure, she has shown progress with careful introductions and training. She wears a basket muzzle comfortably and has successfully interacted with one of her foster's dogs in controlled situations. With continued guidance and the right match, there may be potential for her to coexist with another dog in the future. Hera still gets so excited to see her people that she may jump or gently mouth at clothing during greetings. Thankfully, she redirects well when given a toy instead.
