Chico Diablo is a stunning black and tan Doberman with cropped ears and a docked tail. He's lean, muscular, and athletic, with a love for playing with balls and being outdoors. Chico is affectionate and a bit clingy with his foster family, always seeking attention. He's crate-trained, sleeps soundly in his crate at night, and is well-trained on the leash, responding to basic verbal commands.
Chico came to us with some baggage after experiencing the loss of his home and confusion at a shelter. Initially, he was noted as 'nippy' and would avoid petting, using his teeth gently to ask for space when his collar was grabbed. We've worked with him extensively, discovering that this behavior likely stemmed from past mishandling, possibly with a prong collar. Now, he trusts people but will need confident owners to establish clear boundaries for his safety. He's sensitive to yelling and not a dominant personality.
Chico is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, has been treated for heartworm, and is on prevention. He's now at a healthy weight with a shiny coat and is motivated by food.
Ideal Home
Chico would thrive in a home where he receives plenty of affection and has a fenced-in yard for exercise. While not necessary, a home with another dog, preferably a medium to large female, would be comforting to him. Due to his sensitivity to having his collar pulled or grabbed, we do not recommend a home with small children. He is also not a candidate for board and training due to his history.
Ongoing Health
Chico has been treated for heartworm and is on prevention. He is up-to-date on all his vaccines and has been neutered.
Training & Support
Chico is house-trained, crate-trained, and leash-trained. He responds well to verbal commands. He can bark at noises, alarms, sirens, and people outside of his property. He has a history of "fence fighting" with other male dogs, and while he backs down without a barrier, we do not recommend dog parks or a home with another male dog. He is submissive, gentle, and playful with female dogs. For his safety and peace of mind, muzzle use during vet visits with strangers is recommended.
