Hiya friends! My name is WINNIE and I'm a sweet and happy gal who adores human affection. As you can see in my photos, I'll gladly take alllll the pets - I'll even give you a hug! I was rescued as just a puppy, along with my eight siblings, from a wooded area near Mexico City. We were found alone, thin, and malnourished - rescued just in time! Surely we would not have survived without intervention from our kind rescuers. While it took time to gain weight and grow, I was found otherwise healthy and without any serious health conditions. Since then, I've spent about four years here at the shelter. Such a long time! All of my siblings have been adopted, but I'm still waiting for a forever home of my very own. Will that be with you?! My Rescuer says that I'm not a morning doggie, I like to sleep in! While I'm not always super hungry in the morning, I'll jump at the chance for my favorite treat - sausages! I do not show any signs of resource guarding. I'm still a young adult with a love for play, but I'm a pretty mellow girlie. I enjoy going for walks and playing with my fellow doggos, but know when it's my time to chill and appreciate a good nap! My Rescuer says that I'm calm around familiar and new people and get along well with dogs of all sizes.
Ideal Home
My ideal home is one that balances daily walks and cozy naps - and of course, offers plenty of love and affection! I haven't been tested with kids 8 years old and under, and need to have an adult advocate for my space and make sure I'm supervised around children. I don't have any known experience around cats, and my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through any new behaviors that might arise around them or other small animals.
Ongoing Health
I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records. I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North. It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted.
Training & Support
Leash skills are a work in progress. While I love walks, I don't have frequent opportunities at the shelter. I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! House trained is also a work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn proper habits in my new home.
