Pluto is a two-and-a-half-year-old loving, loyal companion looking for a fresh start after the heartbreaking loss of his owner in early June. His owner was a kind, older gentleman, and the two were inseparable. Pluto enjoyed 2-3 daily walks, daily trips to the dog park, and has excellent recall. He knows "sit" and "paw." At home, Pluto loves to be by your side and is always up for a cuddle. He's dog-friendly and shares his space beautifully in his foster homes. He has also lived peacefully with a cat and guinea pig. Pluto thrives on an active lifestyle and loves playing fetch, exploring wooded trails, and has the stamina to keep playing long after the other dogs are ready to head home. He adores children and is often the dog happily soaking up attention or playing fetch with them at the park.
Ideal Home
Pluto would do best with someone who is home most of the day or works remotely, as he's used to having his person nearby. He has lived with older kids but has not lived with young children, so we are looking for a home with kids 12 and up.
Ongoing Health
Pluto is currently carrying a few extra pounds, so we recommend a weight-management diet, along with his daily walks and playtime, to help him return to his ideal weight.
Training & Support
While Pluto gets along well with most dogs, he can be a bit bossy with puppies and may occasionally try to herd or nip them—a typical Australian Shepherd instinct. Fortunately, he has excellent recall and redirects easily. He does experience some separation anxiety and may whine for about 30 minutes after you leave before settling down. With few exceptions, dogs are happiest and well-behaved when they receive daily exercise and ongoing training, so we always prefer to place our dogs with families willing to commit to both.
