About Artemis

Artemis, a 7-year-old female German Shepherd, also known affectionately as “Moo,” is a sweet, shy, and affectionate girl. She was attacked by another dog about a month ago, which has caused her to be fearful of other dogs and display defensive aggression towards them. Prior to this incident, Moo was fine with other dogs and even lived with a male German Shepherd mix for several years, with whom she was very bonded. Moo is great with young children and friendly with people, requiring no special introductions. She is housetrained, has always been an inside dog, and is good when left alone for extended periods. However, the attack triggered separation anxiety symptoms, which are now well-controlled with an antidepressant called trazodone. Before starting trazodone, she would chew at her hindquarters, cry, and pace excessively. With the medication, she is fine for extended periods with no issues. Moo loves walks and has excellent leash manners, though she does bark when she sees other dogs, she is not overly reactive. She also has excellent off-leash recall. Moo gets excited on car rides and can be anxious and vocal when traveling. She loves small plush toys, water hoses, fetch, hide-and-seek, and finding hidden toys. Moo enjoys shallow water like the lakeshore or a kiddie pool but dislikes deep water. Moo is looking for a new home because her owner's wife has developed an autoimmune disorder and experiences anaphylaxis near pet dander.

Ideal Home

A home where Moo can feel safe and loved. She is not good with cats.

Ongoing Health

Moo is in good health and fully vaccinated. She is not spayed, and her new adopter will need to have this done within 90 days of adoption. A $300 refundable spay deposit is required and will be returned upon proof of spaying. She is currently managed for separation anxiety with trazodone.

Training & Support

Moo has excellent off-leash recall and good leash manners, though she barks at other dogs on walks. She is housetrained and accustomed to being inside. Her separation anxiety is managed with medication.
