About Copper

Copper has an incredibly optimistic outlook on life! His philosophy is simple: if a human is within arm's reach, there's a very good chance a belly rub is about to happen, and Copper is not about to miss that opportunity. Most dogs politely ask for affection; Copper skips that part entirely. He simply throws himself onto his back with all four paws in the air, like he's already accepted the award for "Most Pettable Dog of the Year." It's a level of confidence most of us can only dream of. Then comes the lean. Not a little shoulder bump or a gentle nudge, but a full-body commitment. When Copper decides you're his person, he leans into you with the enthusiasm of someone trying to become your backpack. The more you pet him, the harder he leans, and before you know it, you're laughing because somehow this happy-go-lucky goofball has you standing at a 30-degree angle. It's impossible not to smile around him. Copper has this wonderfully uncomplicated way of looking at the world. He loves people, loves other dogs, does beautifully with cats, and seems to wake up every morning assuming something good is about to happen. Whether it's chasing a toy, hanging out with his dog friends, or simply following you around the house hoping today might include approximately seventeen more belly rubs than yesterday, he's just happy to be part of whatever life has planned. The funny thing about Copper is that after a while, the upside-down belly flops stop being something he does and start becoming part of your routine. You'll walk through the front door already expecting to see four paws pointed toward the ceiling. You'll automatically reach down because you know exactly what's coming. You'll find yourself laughing before you've even taken your shoes off. Some dogs slowly become part of your family; Copper somehow becomes part of your happiness. And one day you'll realize you honestly can't remember what coming home felt like before there was a goofy dog lying upside down, waiting for you to scratch his belly. That's Copper.
