Meet Nell!
Nell is a 6-month-old female Border Collie who is incredibly sweet and has made amazing progress since arriving at her foster home. She was initially timid and fearful but has blossomed into a dog who adores her foster siblings, is becoming more comfortable meeting new people, and happily follows her foster dad everywhere. Nell is a brilliant, active, and fast learner, typical of her breed. She would make an excellent hiking companion but needs more than just walks to fulfill her needs. Nell requires a job, purpose, structured training, or another productive outlet for her intelligence and energy. She has shown some interest in sheep, but it's too early to tell if she'll become a working stock dog; she may have potential with the right training.
Ideal Home
Nell's ideal home will be with an experienced handler familiar with high-drive herding breeds. She needs someone patient as she adjusts to new people and situations, committed to continued training and confidence-building, and has a securely fenced yard. Apartments or high-density housing are not suitable for Nell. A playful, confident dog would be a wonderful addition to her home, as she is very dog-social and enjoys playing and sharing toys.
Ongoing Health
Nell is up to date on vaccines and will be adopted with a spay contract.
Training & Support
Nell is house-trained, travels well, walks fairly nicely on leash, and has started learning basic commands like sit, stay, and down. She is also partially crate-trained. Nell is not a "turnkey" dog and may temporarily regress when moving to a new home. Her adopter must be willing to take things slowly and allow her time to feel safe.
