Tawny's smile won us over when she came to us from a hoarding situation in California. Ten dogs were living in unsanitary conditions, but Tawny immediately sought out love and attention from our rescuers. She's an incredibly endearing dog who clearly deserves a loving forever home.
Tawny's previous owner overfed the dogs, and Tawny is currently about 18 pounds overweight at 72 pounds. She's on a healthy weight loss journey with portion control and walks, and her success will be straightforward for her future adopter. She's a young senior, approximately 6-7 years old, and is a possibly purebred Australian Cattle Dog with a longer, natural tail.
Tawny gets along well with other dogs, large and small, and would ideally have a canine companion as she seems to enjoy having a furry friend around. She has likely always lived with multiple dogs and they provide her with companionship when her owner isn't home. We think she'd do best with another nice male dog. She is also excellent with cats and is fostered with two, showing politeness and no bother to them at all.
Ideal Home
An ideal home for Tawny would be one where her humans aren't gone for super long work hours, as she has shown a little anxiety when left alone without another dog. She has done well in a crate in the main living area with a canine companion, where she will nap. She may do better left out of her crate when home alone, but this has not been tested yet.
Ongoing Health
Tawny is currently on a weight loss journey, needing to lose approximately 18 pounds. She's making great progress with portion control and walks. Tawny is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention.
Training & Support
Tawny has perfect potty habits so far in foster. She enjoys her walks and is not reactive on leash. She loads right into a vehicle and enjoys car rides. She is a low-energy dog who enjoys napping belly-up and could be happy with a walk a day for exercise.
