Meet Afton, our sweet-natured boy!
Afton is a 2.5-year-old retriever shepherd hound blend weighing about 55 pounds. He is incredibly smart and a joy to be around! While he can be a bit stubborn at times, this is manageable with patience. Afton is well-mannered and eager to please, with a gentle temperament and an old-soul demeanor. He's an easy dog, making owning him a delightful experience. Afton is friendly, happy-go-lucky, and incredibly sweet, with a superb, outgoing, and cheerful personality. He enjoys group play, daily pack walks, and meeting new people and dogs. He loves cuddles and is a nurturing companion, always eager to be loved. He trusts everyone and knows no strangers. Afton is fantastic with dogs of all ages and sizes, as well as with cats, rabbits, and even turtles. He has also made great strides in respecting chickens, ducks, roosters, and goats. He’s active but not hyper, and genuinely happy all the time. Afton would make an extraordinary family dog for an active, affectionate, and outgoing family. His hound-like personality is full of heart! He enjoys staying active and learning new things and is highly motivated by food and praise. Training Afton is fun, though patience is essential. He’s a simple dog with a big heart, ready to share it with everyone he meets, and has a special knack for making people smile and laugh.
Ideal Home
Afton would make an extraordinary family dog for an active, affectionate, and outgoing family. A fenced yard is preferred. Afton does need another dog in the home, as being with companions is important for him.

Training & Support
Afton is house and crate trained and walks well on a leash. His recall is decent for a hound. Training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily to set him up for success.

- A minimum of 2 Meet & Greets are required before adopting.
- A home check needs to take place.
- Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense.
- A minimum tax-deductible suggested adoption fee donation of $300 is required.
- For AHRS Former Adopters, no adoption fee is required; a donation of choice is expected.

Afton is fostered in Kokomo, IN. We do NOT ship any of our adoptable pets.
