Dexter is a 12-week-old (born mid-April) miniature schnauzer mix with a heart full of playfulness, cuddles, and curiosity. He was found abandoned on the side of a rural highway, but thankfully, a kind soul rescued him and brought him into a loving foster environment. Dexter has had a few transitions between foster homes due to summer vacations, which has shown his adaptability. He's great with children, cats, and absolutely adores other dogs, often looking to them to learn how to "dog." While he's been gentle with very young children, he would likely do best in a home with older kids who understand puppy behaviors like teething and play-biting. Dexter loves to cuddle and can be found snuggled up with his human foster siblings or sleeping soundly next to his canine foster brother.

A home that understands that puppy teething and play biting is a behavior to train rather than being scared of.
Ongoing Health
Dexter has received age-appropriate vaccinations, parasite treatment and prevention, and a microchip. He will be neutered prior to adoption.
Training & Support
Dexter is currently working on foundational skills like crate training and housebreaking. He is about 60% potty trained with occasional accidents, but he does not go potty in his kennel. Consistent routines and positive reinforcement will help him excel. Any resident cats or other pets should be introduced slowly and properly.

Transporation
Dexter is currently located in the greater Houston area. Adoption is available with transport to the Pacific Northwest, Colorado, and the Northeast (some restrictions may apply). We are currently unable to adopt to Oregon, New York, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Maine.
