Hello there, I’m Xavier. I’m an 8.5-year-old retriever mix, and I like to think of myself as a distinguished, mature gentleman. Because I’ve been around the block a time or two, I can be a little shy at first and it might take me a minute to warm up to new situations. But if you are an adopter who is willing to take things at my pace, I promise the reward is so worth it! Once I feel completely comfortable and safe with you, my wonderful goofy side comes right out. My favorite way to show you I'm happy is by proudly jaunting around the room with a squeaky stuffy in my mouth before leaning all my weight into you for some well-deserved pets. To be completely honest, I really love my stuffies... but I love my people even more! Because I want to keep all your affection to myself, I must be the only dog in the home. I just don't really want to share my humans with any other pups, and I think I deserve to be the king of my castle! My perfect day includes a little bit of everything. I enjoy exercise, leisurely walks, and doing some sniffing and exploring outdoors. But at the end of the day, my absolute favorite place to be is right near my people, cuddling up close and relaxing. If you have a quiet home and a heart full of patience for a sweet older guy who just wants to love you fiercely, please come ask to meet me. Don't forget to bring a squeaky toy!

I am enrolled in Waifs with Wisdom, a program for dogs to learn basic commands and leash walking skills. My adoption comes with a free 30-minute private training session. My previous owner said that I am crate-trained.
