6/23/26: Meet Racket (aka Rocket) - Smart, Social, and Ready for Adventure
If you're looking for a mature German Shepherd with plenty of energy and an impressive training foundation, Racket may be your perfect match. This handsome boy loves playing fetch, romping with other dogs, and splashing around in water. In fact, a kiddie pool might just be his favorite accessory!
Racket is highly intelligent and knows a full range of commands, including sit, down, stay, heel, place, and drop-it. He has excellent leash manners and outstanding off-leash reliability, making him a wonderful companion for hiking, outdoor adventures, or active families. He thrives with clear, consistent leadership and quickly learns what is expected of him.
While Racket can be strong-willed at times, he responds very well to firm, fair guidance and becomes incredibly obedient once he builds a relationship with his handler. He is friendly with strangers, loves other dogs, and has shown no signs of aggression.
Racket would do best in a home that can provide him with regular exercise, playtime, and continued structure. In return, you'll gain a loyal, well-mannered companion who is always ready for his next adventure-and probably a splash in the nearest pool.
5/26/26: Today is our Jail swap day and I was picked to go this month, how exciting is that?! I'll be getting basic obedience training, crate and leash training, making sure I'm housebroken and socialized. I won't be available for adoption until I'm back on June 23rd. If you're interested in visiting me when I'm back, be sure to schedule your appointment on the 24th or 26th. Until then, stay frosty!
5/13/26: Meet Racket
Some of us around here have accidentally started calling him "Rocket" instead of Racket... and honestly, it fits him perfectly. This handsome boy is always ready for action and approaches life at full speed, especially if a tennis ball is involved.
Racket is a 5-year-old German Shepherd weighing just under 80 pounds who came to us after being surrendered to a shelter in Maryland due to financial hardship. Through no fault of his own, he's now looking for a fresh start with a family ready to match his enthusiasm for life.
This boy is active, playful, and loves to stay busy. Toss a ball and you'll instantly see his personality light up. He would thrive in a home that can provide regular exercise, playtime, and continued structure to help him channel his energy in positive ways.
Racket has previously lived with other large breed dogs and reportedly did well with them. He has also lived with a cat, though that arrangement was not quite as successful, so we believe he would do best in a home without cats.
The good news? He already comes with plenty of the important basics checked off. Racket is housebroken, crate trained, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. He is also scheduled to be neutered on 5/14, after which he will be fully ready to meet his forever family.
Racket is the kind of dog who brings movement, personality, and excitement wherever he goes. For the right home, he's going to make an incredibly fun, loyal, and adventure-ready companion.
5/6/26: Hello, everyone! I would like to say that I have just arrived at Char-Wills on 5/6/26. Unfortunately, my owner had to relinquish me to a Maryland shelter because they couldn't afford the care anymore. There will be more information to come in the next week or so as I get settled in!
