About Michelle
Meet Michelle! This 3-year-old, 48-pound Staffordshire Terrier mix is a real sweetheart with a lot of love to give. Rescued from a high-kill shelter, Michelle is living her best second life in a foster home in Houston, Texas, and is ready to transport to her forever family. She's incredibly friendly and social, especially with other dogs, and loves to play and nap with her canine pals. While she can get a bit enthusiastic during play, she's great at reading other dogs' cues and adjusting her behavior. Michelle enjoys outdoor playtime and is a mellow, happy companion indoors, ready to relax and snooze. She's met children 8 and up and has been sweet and loving, but because she can jump when excited, we recommend a home with kids 12+ or dog-savvy teens who can handle her joyful exuberance. She's fully housebroken, crate trained, and even chooses to spend time in her crate during the day. Michelle is very food motivated and a quick learner, though she can be a little sneaky with food, so she's fed separately. She responds well to redirection and continued leash training will help her improve her pulling. Michelle loves to chew, especially on outdoor finds, so supervision and crate time when unsupervised are important. She's also an escape artist who can scale fences, so a secure yard or leash walks are essential. Despite this, she'd do well in an apartment or urban setting with consistent exercise and enrichment. Michelle is a quirky, affectionate girl who loves to be close to her people, often resting her upper body on laps or hovering nearby for attention. She would thrive in a home with another friendly dog and a family that can provide love, structure, and playtime.
Ideal Home
Michelle would thrive in a home with another friendly dog and a family that can offer her love, structure, and playtime. She does tend to jump when she’s excited, so a home with kids 12+ or dog-savvy younger teens who can handle her enthusiasm is recommended. A secure yard or leash walks are a must, as she is an escape artist.
Ongoing Health
Michelle is a healthy, spayed female.
Training & Support
Michelle is fully housebroken and crate trained. She is food motivated and learns quickly but can be a little sneaky around food and requires separate feeding. She is still working on leash manners, as she tends to pull, and will benefit from continued leash training. She also enjoys chewing and can be an escape artist, so supervision and secure containment are important.
