About Sugar: Not at the shelter (Sierra)

Sugar is a beautiful 8-year-old German Shepherd who came to us from a shelter. For the first eight years of her life, she lived in what we imagine was an unsocialized and possibly isolated environment. Thankfully, Sugar has begun to make friends with people and is showing a willingness to learn new experiences. She is currently in a foster home with another dog and has done wonderfully in learning that life can be predictable and that trusting people brings good things. While senior dogs can sometimes have a harder time adjusting, we are hopeful Sugar will continue to build trust.

Sugar is not fully house-trained yet, but she has learned to navigate her foster home and use the door to the backyard to go outside. Her foster mom is diligently working with her on leash training, which is also a process of building trust. She lives with another gentle dog and tends to be the assertive one in her foster home. Sugar is happy to coexist with the household cat. We are committed to continuing her socialization and helping her become a more well-adjusted dog, though she may never be the type to actively seek out interactions with strangers. If you are looking for a loyal companion to be your best friend and are patient enough to teach her to trust, Sugar is a wonderful, albeit still a bit of a project, dog. She weighs around 70 pounds, is spayed, and up-to-date on her vaccines.

Ideal Home

Sugar will likely not be a dog who wants to go out and about to meet strangers. We do not promote dog adoptions to homes where an invisible fence is the fencing of choice.

Ongoing Health

Sugar is spayed and current with her vaccines.

Training & Support

Sugar is not fully house-trained yet, but is learning. She is still working on leash confidence. She tends to be the assertive one in her current foster home.
