Meet Ernie! He's a charming 8-year-old Pittie/Cattle Dog mix, weighing in at about 63lbs, who was found wandering on a busy street. Despite being microchipped, his previous owner didn't want him back. Ernie is a true gem, a social butterfly who was clearly loved before and is now ready to find his forever family. He's a chill and goofy older gentleman who gets excited for walks and playtime.
Ideal Home
Ernie would thrive in a home where he can be close to his people, as he loves to follow his humans from room to room. He's done great with every human and animal he's met, showing excitement and a wagging tail when he sees other dogs, and is described as a gentle playmate. He's even let his smaller foster sibling, an Aussie, boss him around! While he hasn't been formally introduced to cats, he shows interest without aggression, suggesting he might do well in a home with cats who don't mind him saying hello. Ernie hasn't been around children, but his foster believes he'd enjoy a home with them as long as they understand he's a big boy. He's adaptable and would be a great fit for a home with kids, with or without other pets, for an older couple, or even for a first-time dog owner.
Ongoing Health
Ernie is up to date on his vaccinations and is HW- (heartworm negative).
Training & Support
Ernie is house-trained and walks well on a leash. He is not a fan of crates and will try to escape. Thankfully, he doesn't get destructive when left alone. If he knows you're home while he's in the crate, he might whine or howl for a few minutes, but he calms down with a treat or gentle verbal commands.
