Arlo is a 3-year-old, 60-pound bundle of love who has unfortunately been let down by humans multiple times. Despite his past, his foster mom describes him as a goofy, sunshine-loving boy who adores burrowing under blankets and finding the perfect sunbeam for an afternoon nap. Once he feels safe, his personality blossoms – he's equal parts silly, gentle, and deeply loyal. Arlo is an amazing dog who deserves a committed adopter willing to continue working through training protocols and understand he is a project dog.
Ideal Home
Arlo is a solo dog only and would thrive in a home with a power breed experienced adopter who can provide clear guidance and structure. He feels safest in enclosed spaces, so a backyard would be wonderful for him. He is not the biggest fan of long walks yet but absolutely loves to work, and training brings out his confidence and pride. He has lived peacefully with cats after a slow, thoughtful introduction and enjoys playing with them. He can be barky toward children or people who make big hand gestures and is protective of his home, so slow introductions are best.
Ongoing Health
Arlo has some allergies, suspected to be environmental or protein-related, which primarily show up as redness in his ears and muzzle. These are well managed with hypoallergenic food and supplements. He is currently on Alt Pro Advantage hypoallergenic kibble and eats 2.5 cups daily in a slow feeder.
Training & Support
Arlo is fully house-trained, though it took patience. He responds well to clear leadership and routine and is very food-motivated, making training easier. He can resource guard around other animals, so meals and high-value treats are kept separate. He is learning to manage his reactivity toward other dogs and humans through weekly group training sessions. While progress is being made, he should not be left unsupervised with other dogs due to his behavioral history. A structured board and train program focused on continued desensitization, obedience reinforcement, and confidence building in varied environments would be beneficial.
