Cookie is a approximately 5-year-old Catahoula Lab mix who weighs about 52 pounds. She was originally adopted from a kill shelter by her previous owner, who later had to surrender her due to a move. Cookie was very fearful when she first came into rescue, even running off for two weeks before she began to trust her rescuers. Once she felt safe, her transformation was incredible, and she became a loyal and loving companion. She adores children and does well with other dogs of all sizes. Cookie can be a bit of a food-motivated escape artist when left alone, sometimes getting on the kitchen table, which suggests she might have some mild separation anxiety. She is also a good watchdog and will alert you to visitors.
Ideal Home
Cookie needs a home without cats, as she has shown predatory behavior towards them. She thrives with other dogs and adores children. An ideal home would have someone who is home most of the time or can take her with them, as she may experience some separation anxiety. A home where she can be given space and patience to build trust is essential, especially with adult men.
Ongoing Health
Cookie received a clean bill of health from the vet on 5/18/21 and was up-to-date on her yearly vetting.
Training & Support
Cookie can be fear-reactive and has trust issues, particularly with adult men. She requires patience and understanding as she learns to trust her new people. It's recommended to get her out and about to help her become comfortable in new situations and with new people. She can be prone to counter surfing when left alone, which may be a sign of separation anxiety. A harness is recommended for leash walking, especially initially.
