Yuki is a mellow, 9-year-old gentleman who loves to nap next to you and lounge in the sun. He's content to sleep the day away near his person but is also up for playing with stuffed animals and fetching! Yuki does well on leash but is quick to warn you that strangers are nearby. He has some barrier frustration, but is generally very easy-going once he has warmed up to you. He loves going for car rides and is a great passenger, although drive-thru cashiers may be startled at his sudden alerting. Yuki does well with other dogs, being polite enough to leave old grumpy dogs alone but will play with young, energetic pups. He does not resource guard his person, but does show some food guarding tendencies, so it would be safest to feed him separately. Yuki is crate trained, potty trained, and walks well on leash. He is generally a gentle, mellow guy with great house manners. He has a case of "stranger danger" but can be redirected when he is reacting. Yuki loves hanging out with his human but does well when left alone, sleeping until you return and greeting you wholeheartedly. He takes a little bit to warm up to his person, but once you earn his trust, you will find that no one else will look at you with as much love in their eyes as Yuki.
Ideal Home
Yuki needs a home with no children, or older children who will treat him with respect and give him space as needed. He prefers a quiet home with no kids or frequent visitors because busy places and unfamiliar people are overwhelming for him. He may bark and lunge at big delivery trucks or strangers who get too close on walks. If guests are over, please ensure he is separated in a different room. Keeping him at a distance from strangers is key to helping him transition successfully. He needs a calm, low-traffic home with someone who has experience with dogs who have behavioral issues and can help him feel safe without expecting him to be a social butterfly.
Ongoing Health
Yuki will always need to be medicated with Gabapentin and Trazadone for vet and grooming appointments. This requires 2 doses total: 14 hours and 2 hours before appointments.
Training & Support
Yuki is potty trained and leash trained. Professional trainers have noted that he will always be a bite risk and requires careful management. It's important to read his body language, respect his boundaries, and not expect him to change. He can be redirected when he is reacting to his "stranger danger."
