Gingersnap, affectionately known as Ginger or Gingey, is a hilarious, spunky, and utterly adorable 9-year-old Pekingese mix weighing in at 9lbs. She was found as a stray in Houston and, though we don't know her full story, it's clear she's had a tougher life and has likely had puppies. A shelter employee's plea brought her to us, and we couldn't resist rescuing this delightful girl.
Ginger is a friendly and confident companion with a low to medium energy level. She gets along wonderfully with most dogs, especially other small, playful pups. In her foster home, she's become quite fond of one of the resident boys and can often be found trying to entice him into a game – it’s truly heartwarming to watch! She's a pro at potty training, crate training, and is a gem in the car and on leash. Her crate is her sanctuary, a place she retreats to for relaxation. Since her initial adjustment, she's had very few accidents and shows no signs of separation anxiety. Her exercise routine is delightfully low-maintenance, consisting of neighborhood strolls and bursts of playful zoomies with her canine friends.
Ideal Home
Ginger would thrive in a home with another very playful small dog, as she enjoys a good romp. Her adopter should be committed to continuing basic command training for her safety. While she's adaptable to various home environments, a household without young children would be best due to her tendency to be startled.
Ongoing Health
Gingersnap is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, and she will be ready to join her forever family in September.
Training & Support
Ginger is potty trained, crate trained, and a good girl on leash. She can occasionally be startled and may let out a little yelp if surprised, though she's becoming less sensitive as she settles into her foster home. Continuing basic command training is encouraged.
