Steve was discovered outside the local shelter when employees arrived for work, left in a laundry basket filled with trash. He was nothing but skin and bones. Security footage showed a pickup truck arriving in the early morning hours, with three men abandoning him and the basket at the front door. Given his critical condition, the initial consideration was humane euthanasia as the kindest option. However, when Steve heard the commotion and realized people cared, he lifted his head as if to say, "I'm still here." He has seen a vet and is extremely malnourished and neglected, several pounds underweight. His toenails were so long they had curled under and were growing into his pads. He has a long road to recovery, but he is getting stronger every day.
