Alice is a beautiful 1-year-old girl who is taking her first steps toward discovering that people can be part of a safe and happy life. Having grown up without being socialized to humans, Alice is not seeking human attention or affection at this stage. Instead, she is learning at her own pace that the world can be bigger than fear. Currently in foster care, Alice has begun making small but meaningful progress. She is starting to venture outside of her secure kennel area on her own and briefly explore her surroundings when she feels comfortable enough to do so. These moments of curiosity are important milestones for a dog like Alice. Alice is not aggressive in any way. She is simply very shy and fearful of people, and she will retreat from any attempt at physical contact. She does not yet accept treats from a person's hand and will often wait until she is completely alone and feels safe before eating, even when offered favorite foods like bacon or hot dogs. She is indifferent to the resident cats and dog in her foster home. Because she has lived around other dogs before, Alice may benefit from a calm, confident canine companion who can help show her that everyday life is safe. Alice's journey is just beginning, and we are excited to watch her continue to grow in confidence.
