Huey is a handsome, athletic, and personable 2-year-old boy who we suspect is a Labrador mix. He weighs 56 lbs and has incredibly expressive ears that let you know he's always listening! Huey has been living in a foster home, where he's learned valuable skills to become a home-life-ready companion. He's smart, motivated, and responds well to confident leadership and clear boundaries. Huey is house-trained, crate-trained, and enjoys quietly following his people around, like a shadow. He's an active dog who loves to run and play in a yard, and he rides well in the car, enjoying the breeze. Huey is affectionate but not overly needy, and he's ready to share his loyalty and love with his forever person.
Ideal Home
Huey would thrive in a home with a yard where he can run and play freely. Apartment living is not suitable for him, as he needs ample space to explore. He also prefers a calmer environment and is not suited for busy cities or fast-paced lifestyles. While he has enjoyed living with children and other dogs in his foster homes, long-term living with kids is not for him. He can be a wonderful companion for visits with children, but he prefers a peaceful home environment for himself. A home with another dog is possible, provided careful management of meal times due to resource guarding tendencies. Alternatively, a one-dog household would eliminate any potential tension over food.
Ongoing Health
Huey's health is up-to-date with all his vetting, including vaccinations and preventative care.
Training & Support
Huey is house-trained and crate-trained. He responds well to confident leadership and thrives with boundaries. He exhibits resource guarding tendencies around food, which can be easily managed by feeding him and other dogs separately, such as in crates, and avoiding shared treats or table scraps. This behavior is manageable and can be a non-issue with the right approach.
