About Xena

Meet Xena! This incredible girl proves that growth is possible with a little love, patience, and the right people in her corner. We are so proud of how far she's come and can't wait to help her find the loving home she deserves. Xena adores her people and is wonderful with adults and teens, now greeting them without any barking. She's expected to do great with elementary-aged kids, but toddlers are still a little scary for her, so a home without them is best while she continues to build her confidence. Xena is on a journey with other dogs; she's been playing pretty well with dogs through a fence, which is exciting progress! There's cautious hope she might do okay living with a larger, neutral male dog after careful introductions, but a multi-dog home isn't the right fit for her at this stage. Give her your full attention, and she'll give you all her heart.

Ideal Home

Xena needs a house with a yard and a strong, secure fence, ideally 6ft tall, as she's got some serious spring in her step. An apartment is not the right setting for this girl, as her play sessions are loud and bouncy. A home of her own with a yard will set her up to thrive. She would do best in a home without toddlers while she continues to build her confidence, and in a single-dog household.

Ongoing Health

Xena is potty trained and has no potty issues.

Training & Support

Xena used to be quite the handful, but today she's a completely different dog! She now works for praise, love, and affection instead of just snacks. She's learning to manage her leash reactivity to dogs and is improving daily. She sometimes squats or cowers when you reach for her, but this has gotten much better with time and gentle handling. Xena is crazy smart and loves to show off her skills. She has a focused heel, auto-sit, spin, recall (both verbal and e-collar beep), kennel training, dog door training, and is about 80% reliable on her place position. Xena has opinions about the "down" command and will protest with a side-eye before complying. Her butt never stops wiggling when people are around! She is not a destructive chewer and sticks to her own toys.
