Howard

Well, hello there! My name is Howard! I'm a medium-sized lab mix, about 42 pounds at full growth, and I'm told I'm just the right size for laps. I was found in Stephen's State Forest with my pack and brought to the shelter where I've been learning so much. I used to be a bit shy, but with a lot of patience and consistency, I've learned to really enjoy pets and brushing from people I trust. I'm great at taking treats nicely and keeping my kennel clean! I've even gotten brave enough to go on walks outside the shelter, as long as I have time to explore. My volunteers have given me nicknames like "Howie" or "How How," and they've shown me how wonderful an ear scratch can be! It's been so exciting to see me learn to love them back.

Ideal Home

I need a fenced yard to feel safe and protected, so apartments and townhomes aren't the best fit for me. Quick movements and loud noises can still make me nervous, so a home without young children or frequent visiting children would be ideal. I've learned to play with other dogs, but I'll need proper introductions to make sure we're a good match. Sharing indoor space with another dog might take some getting used to, but I'm willing to learn with guidance.

Training & Support

I'm doing a great job with my potty training in my kennel! I am still learning about the world, and a patient adopter will help me continue to grow and build confidence.
