Lazaro

Lázaro is a distinguished gentleman, a 6-7 year old, approximately 19 lb Schnauzer mix with a heart of gold and a calm demeanor. He's a master of the crate, sleeping soundly and holding it for short periods with impeccable manners. Lázaro is a social butterfly who gets along wonderfully with other dogs, children, and adults, and he even coexists peacefully with his feathered friends, chickens and roosters! While he enjoys a good cuddle, he's not one to smother; instead, he's a low-key companion who appreciates gentle affection and calm attention. He’s an easygoing soul, perfect for a relaxed household. Lázaro does have a bit of a protective streak over his food, so simple boundaries during meal times are recommended. Physically, Lázaro is uniquely charming. He has a congenital condition in one eye, making it small and without vision, and he's missing a few teeth. But don't let that fool you – he's perfectly healthy, pain-free, and lives a full, happy life. These endearing quirks don't hold him back one bit! He loves his walks and is non-aggressive, though he might bark and try to act tough – it’s all bark and no bite! Sadly, Lázaro was abandoned simply because he was considered "old" and "different." But he's living proof that true beauty shines from within. He's now patiently waiting for a family who will see his resilience, appreciate his calm nature, and cherish his quiet loyalty. Lázaro is ready to be chosen for the wonderful, imperfect dog that he is.

Ideal Home

Lázaro would thrive in a home with a fenced backyard and an active family that enjoys outdoor activities. He needs a family with a genuine intention to rescue and an open mind about the behaviors of street animals, understanding their need for protection and education. Experience with dog behavior and training is a big plus, or a willingness to hire a trainer to help this intelligent dog reach his full potential. He requires high tolerance and patience for a rescued dog.

Ongoing Health

Lázaro is healthy, pain-free, and lives a completely normal life despite having a small, non-visionary eye and missing a few teeth due to congenital conditions. He has received a spay/neuter certificate, DHPPI and Rabies vaccines, Bordetella vaccine, has been dewormed, microchipped, and tested negative for heartworm. He also has a 4DX test and certificate, a health certificate, and receives monthly Nexgard Spectra preventive protection.

Training & Support

Lázaro is not house-trained, which is common for many rescued animals due to the immense effort required to house-train each one. Patience and understanding are crucial for rescued dogs as they may have fears and anxieties from past experiences and need time to adjust to new environments and people. Establishing a routine and clear boundaries will help Lázaro feel secure. While he may sometimes bark and try to act like the "boss," this is not aggression.

Transportation

Lázaro is currently being fostered in Saltillo, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast on a cross-country trip. Door-to-door delivery is available for a one-time fee of $400 USD. This service includes scheduled trips (3-4 times a year with 15-20 adoptions per trip), a contracted transport company that collects adopted pets in Mexico, comprehensive legal documents including a Transport Contract and USDA Health Certificate, and real-time updates throughout the journey. The transport team will deliver Lázaro directly to your home and conduct a final home review.
