Ruby

Ruby is a 4-year-old, spayed female German Shepherd weighing 78 pounds. She's a loving and loyal dog who bonds closely with her people and would make a wonderful adventure sidekick. Ruby was originally purchased from a breeder and is up to date on her vetting. Unfortunately, her current home situation, with a family member who has Alzheimer's, causes her additional anxiety due to unpredictable interactions. Ruby is looking for a new home where her needs can be better met.

Ideal Home

Ruby is an energetic working breed who would thrive in a home with an active owner who can meet her physical and mental exercise needs. She needs clear direction, consistency, and reinforcement of desirable behaviors. While friendly with people of all ages, she would need supervision around smaller children due to her size and excitability. We do not know how she would do with cats.

Ongoing Health

Ruby has a history of colitis and pica and has managed these issues with daily medication. She also experiences anxiety and sound phobias and takes anti-anxiety medication. Her new home will need to be willing to continue her medications and work with a veterinarian to manage her health.

Training & Support

Ruby has excelled with training in the past and is intelligent. She has a big bark but is excited to greet visitors. She can react to other dogs on leash, jumping around, so a handler comfortable managing this behavior is ideal. When playing with other dogs, she can be persistent in her interactions and sometimes annoys them with licking and pawing. Play sessions with other dogs need to be closely supervised, and she needs redirection and separation when play escalates to prevent fights.
