Vela

Hi there! My name is Vela, and I am a beautiful charcoal gal who came all the way up here from New Mexico. I have a white patch on my chest and a dark line down my snout – I'm one pretty gal! I have quite the vocal cords, and not because I bark much, but because anytime I express a feeling of excitement or joy, I make a really full yawn noise that can be high-pitched, according to my foster mom. She laughs at me all the time! I am working hard at potty training, and my foster mom is quite impressed with the progress I have made since I came to her in the winter time. I love treats and have figured out that I get rewarded when I go outside to do my business. I am kennel trained and don't mind being in there when you are away, if you leave a toy for me to play with. I also do really well being outside my kennel when you are running errands, which is what I prefer. My foster mom lets me sleep in her bed at night, and I do so well. I love to give her lots of kisses when I am ready to wake up and eat breakfast! I have met a few tiny humans and I'm not sure what to think of them; I'm cautious. I'm sure I would love them, but I just need some experience. I probably would do best in a home with bigger humans, as I do tend to get excited with my mouth. Some of the things my foster mom has taught me are sit, stay, leave it, come, gentle, and good girl! I have also mastered the stairs, which I am so proud of and think I am so cool because of it! I currently live with three pitties who are 12, 5, and 4 years old. I play well with others and love cuddling with the other dogs. I also love snuggling up to my human, but sometimes I just want to relax on my own on the couch and chill for a bit by myself. I have not met any cats, but I don't have much of a prey drive with all the squirrels outside. I am a sweet gal who wants to have a loving home and would make a really great addition to any family that would give me some patience as I learn how to be the best dog ever. I think I would really benefit and love some obedience classes. I just really want to please my humans. I'm hoping it's with you!

Ideal Home

I'm looking for a patient home with bigger humans as I tend to get excited with my mouth. While I'm cautious with tiny humans now, I'm sure I'd love them with some experience. I currently live with three pitties and play well with them, enjoying cuddles with other dogs. I also enjoy relaxing on my own sometimes.

Training & Support

I am kennel trained and am progressing well with potty training, especially when rewarded with treats for going outside. I have been taught sit, stay, leave it, come, gentle, and good girl. I have also mastered the stairs. I think obedience classes would be beneficial for me.
