A little about them
Avery is a loyal, loving six-year-old Shih Tzu who weighs 10 pounds. This sweet, quiet companion enjoys snuggles, lap time, belly rubs, and being close to her people. She is house trained, walks well on leash, travels calmly in her crate, and has recently begun showing her playful side with toys.
Avery is happiest in a calm home with someone present much of the day. She is nervous around loud or unfamiliar sounds, prefers quieter walks, and would not do well being left in a crate for a full workday. She should be handled gently and may not always want to be picked up.
Ideal Home
Avery would do best in a quieter household without young children; calm teenagers are suitable. She could live as the only dog or with a calm small dog. She is friendly with cats and would enjoy a dog-friendly feline companion.
Ongoing Health
Avery was previously reported to have severe itchiness. Multiple veterinarians found no issues, and no itchiness has been observed in foster care, but her family should continue monitoring her and be prepared for possible allergy medication costs. She needs daily brushing and regular professional grooming. Her dental work has been completed.
Training & Support
Avery is fully house trained and lets her family know when she needs to go outside. She sleeps in her crate at night and travels well in it, though she has only spent short periods crated during the day. Continued exposure to the world around her in quiet areas will help build her confidence.
