Meet Casper, the Fluffy Smiley Giant with a Soft Heart!
Casper is a 4-year-old, 58lb cream-colored Samoyed mix with a cloud-like coat and a lovable personality. He smiles all the time and is happy and friendly! Rescued and brought into the shelter, Casper has adjusted well and is now looking for a forever family who understands the needs of a large, fluffy pup. He's full-grown and full of charm, especially when he's showing off his affectionate, goofy side. Casper does really well with people, including kids, and other dog and cat friends. He is curious but very gentle with cats. He's typically calm or indifferent around others; despite his size, he's not a barker. However, while he doesn't guard food from humans, he may grumble if another dog gets too close during mealtime. Casper's been working on this with his foster family and is doing much better. If coming into a home with other dogs or cats, slow introductions would be needed.
Ideal Home
Casper will especially need to go to a home without dog allergies and with a love for large breeds. He would do best in a home with a more set routine to manage his Bilious Vomiting Syndrome.
Ongoing Health
Casper has Bilious Vomiting Syndrome (BVS), so he will throw up bile if he goes too long without eating, especially in the morning before breakfast. This can be easily prevented if he's fed on a set schedule.
Training & Support
Casper is house-trained and walks okay on a leash; he still pulls a bit but is a good listener. He is generally a bit anxious and fearful, so he would need a family who can love him with patience. His foster family has been working on walking by big busses, and he's been improving! Casper has mild separation anxiety. When confined to a room with the door closed, he may dig at the carpet or door. However, when given free roam of the home and a chew stick, he settles very quickly. Casper is not a big fan of being brushed but will tolerate it if given a lick mat. His foster family is working on desensitizing him to brushing, but this may be something his future family would need to continue working on.
