Shirley

Meet Shirley! This sweet little Maltese-Shih Tzu mix may be small, weighing in at about 12 pounds, but she has a heart as big as her personality. Shirley arrived at Elles House with her sister, Laverne, and it quickly became clear that Shirley takes her role as protector very seriously. While we don't know what these girls experienced before coming to us, Shirley has always felt the need to watch over her sister and the humans around her. We are diligently showing her that she is safe now and doesn't have to carry that responsibility anymore. Underneath that protective nature is a loving, loyal little girl who simply wants to be loved. She enjoys being close to her people, keeping an eye on things, and making sure everyone is okay. Shirley and Laverne share a special bond and would love to stay together, but they can be adopted separately to the right homes. Every rescue has a story, and Shirley's next chapter is waiting to be written with a family of her very own.

Ideal Home

Shirley would love a home where she can continue to feel safe and learn that she doesn't need to be on constant alert. She enjoys being close to her people and keeping an eye on things.

Shirley is house-trained and knows basic commands. She is learning what it means to feel safe and relax without the need to protect. Continued positive reinforcement and patience will help her thrive.
