Red Dog has been with us for over four years, and this sweet boy is so deserving of love. He readily greets volunteers for attention and always wants to play. While he can be a bit shy at first, he's a total sweetheart who doesn't deserve to spend his life at the rescue. He's a wonderfully unique character who might seem a little reserved initially, but he's the best kind of quirky. Please read his story below and consider giving this overlooked boy a chance.
I'm Red Dog. I was rescued from Long County Animal Control after being placed on the euthanasia list. I was absolutely terrified then, but I'm a stunning terrier mix now. I'll need a very patient person to welcome me into their home. I might not be the dog to run and jump into your lap the first time we meet, but once I get to know you, I'm the most playful and fun-loving guy ever! I endured horrible abuse before coming here. It took time and a lot of love for me to earn trust. Now, I run and play with dozens of other dogs and can roam the farm without a care, enjoying my toys and friends. We're working on leash manners, as I get scared when I'm restricted, which unfortunately reminds me of past traumas. However, I'm improving rapidly and am very food-motivated. I can play a bit rough and jump when I'm excited about you, but these behaviors will fade with time and gentle guidance, as we don't want to scare me back into my shell. I'm neutered, heartworm negative, and house-trained.
