Meet Toby, a 6-month-old, 26-pound Carolina Corgi mix pup with a heart as big as his adorable ears. Toby's story began with heartbreak; he was abandoned at a high-kill shelter at just 4 months old. While his mom was quickly adopted, Toby was left behind, scared and alone. Thankfully, a loving foster stepped in to give him the chance he deserved. Initially terrified of the outside world, Toby found comfort in his foster sisters. By watching them, he slowly began to follow their lead. Today, Toby happily goes outside on leash, loves playing with his foster sisters, and enjoys relaxing in the sunshine. Toby is shy when meeting new people and needs time to decompress in new environments. Once he feels safe, he blossoms into a loyal, calm, gentle, and sweet companion who quietly follows you everywhere. He is non-confrontational and has wonderful manners around other animals. Toby loves to hang out on bookshelves, under desks, or right by his foster sisters. He lives with six dogs and one cat and gets along beautifully with all of them, thriving in the company of other pets and looking to them for reassurance.
Ideal Home
Toby thrives in the company of other pets and looks to them for reassurance and confidence. Because of this, a happy, confident, playful dog in the home is required. Toby trusts dogs more than humans, and having a canine role model helps him continue building confidence and learning that the world is a safe place. He spends a lot of energy observing his surroundings and making sure everything is okay, so a calm environment will help him relax and continue gaining confidence. We feel Toby would do best in a quieter home without young kids. A happy, confident, playful dog in the home is required. Yards MUST BE adequately and fully fenced to adopt our pups. We do not accept electric or underground fences.
Ongoing Health
Toby is fully vaccinated with 3 rounds of shots, neutered, and heartworm negative. He is kept on heartworm and flea preventatives.
Training & Support
Toby is currently puppy pad trained and has done an excellent job learning where to potty indoors. Because he is still working through his fear of loud noises and the outside world, we are not yet asking him to go outside regularly for potty breaks. He is a very smart puppy and a quick learner who continues to make progress every day. He closely watches the other dogs in his foster home and is eager to follow their lead when they head outside. We believe that once he becomes more comfortable with outdoor noises and new environments, transitioning to outdoor potty training will be easy for him. With a patient family and a confident dog companion to show him the ropes, Toby is expected to housebreak very quickly.
