About Ryder CT

Hi there! I'm Ryder, a handsome 40-pound Border Collie mix born in 2019. I've had all my shots and have been neutered. Foster Mama says I'm "a little intense," but in the best way! I absolutely LOVE to play fetch with tennis balls, frisbees, and especially my favorite squeaky football and JollyBall. My best quality is how affectionate I am with people I trust – I love to be petted, lean on you, give kisses, and just be near you while I explore and play. I'm also a very fast learner and pick things up quickly, and I'm good in my crate. While I haven't destroyed my plush toys, I'm not super interested in chew toys. I can get a bit grabby and jumpy when excited about my squeaky ball, but I'm working on being good about dropping toys and waiting patiently. I love treats, especially jerky and peanut butter pill pockets!

Ideal Home

I need a home with an experienced Border Collie owner who understands my drive and energy. I'm not a first-time dog owner or a couch potato kind of guy. If you're looking for a dog to play with and explore activities like competitive frisbee, flyball, or lure coursing, I'm your guy! I previously lived with children but would likely do best with older kids due to my tendency to get a little grabby when not paying attention. I can be slow to trust strangers and may not be the best fit for homes with frequent visitors, or you'll need to be comfortable with proper introductions. I can be a bit choosy about men. I also need a fenced yard to safely enjoy my zoomie moments and chase birds and butterflies. Because of my strong prey drive, I'm probably best suited for a home without other small animals like cats. I can be reactive to other dogs, so I would need a home that understands this and can help me manage it.

Ongoing Health

I am on medication for anxiety, which I will need to continue. This medication helps me feel less bothered by things and focus better on training.

Training & Support

I spent years using pee pads in an apartment, so housetraining is a challenge. It's best to keep me in a crate or a mistake-tolerant area when you can't supervise me. I'm also working on my "drop it" and "give" commands, and not being impatient when waiting for my toy.
