Hi there! I'm Ryder, a handsome 40-pound Border Collie mix born in 2019. I'm affectionate with people I trust, love leaning in for pets and giving kisses, and I'm happiest when I'm busy playing fetch, exploring, or learning something new. My favorite toys are tennis balls, frisbees, my squeaky football, and my JollyBall.

Ideal Home

Ryder needs an experienced Border Collie adopter and is not a first-dog or couch-potato kind of dog. He needs a fenced yard and at least an hour of daily exercise through fetch, training, frisbee, or another activity that gives him a job. He would do best with older children, and his home should not include cats or other small animals because he loves chasing moving things. Ryder can be slow to trust strangers and is selective about men, so his family should be comfortable with patient introductions. He is reactive to other dogs and needs dog-aware venues.

Ongoing Health

Ryder is vaccinated and neutered. He takes ongoing medication for anxiety, which helps him focus on training and feel less bothered by things. An additional $20 microchip fee covers registration and transfer to his new family.

Training & Support

Ryder is a fast learner and quickly learned his foster home's outdoor routine. He is comfortable in a crate and does not chew his bed. Housetraining remains a work in progress because he spent years using pee pads, so he should be crated or kept in a mistake-tolerant area when unsupervised. His foster family is working with him on dropping and giving toys, waiting instead of rushing to retrieve them, and managing grabby or jumpy behavior around his favorite squeaky toys.
