About Jay

Meet Jay!

Jay is a happy, playful, and loving 4-year-old male poodle mix who's looking for his forever family. This spunky little guy weighs around 7.7 pounds and is close to his full adult size. He's a little on the thin side and could benefit from gaining a pound or so. Jay was surrendered to the shelter with an alleged report of biting a child's hand during play. However, our observations and his foster experience with a child show him to be a loving and gentle companion, with no signs of aggression. He adores playing and being dressed up by his foster sister, and we suspect any incident must have been accidental. Jay is a very fun-loving dog who enjoys running, playing with toys (and expertly removing squeakers!), and then curling up for cuddles once he's tired. He adjusts quickly to new people and places and has a generally happy outlook on life.

Ideal Home

Jay would thrive in an active home that's looking for a playful companion. While he does well with children, given the past incident, older children might be a better fit. He has never been around cats, so his compatibility with feline friends is unknown.

Ongoing Health

Jay is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and microchipped. He is thankfully heartworm negative. He does require regular grooming every 6 weeks, which should be factored into the time commitment and expenses.

Training & Support

Jay is crate-trained and great on car rides. He's making good progress with his leash walking, though it's not perfect yet. He's also doing well with potty training but needs frequent opportunities to go outside to prevent accidents. Jay is not a picky eater and does well with sharing treats, toys, and food with others, but he does have a slight obsession with human food, so keep it out of reach!
