Meet Ernest!

This gentle, five-and-a-half-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix is a real sweetheart, weighing in at around 75 pounds. Ernest has a beautiful cream coat and soulful eyes that perfectly capture the deep affection he holds for his people. He's a devoted companion who loves to stay close, offering sweet kisses and quietly following his favorite humans from room to room. Ernest has grown into a thoughtful, sensitive boy who thrives on connection above all else. He has lived harmoniously with children, a cat, and even chickens, displaying a calm and friendly nature with all. He's wonderfully social with people and often greets strangers with a warm welcome, though his sensitivity means he appreciates understanding and patience.

Ideal Home

Ernest would thrive in a calm environment where his caregiver is present most of the time and not away for long workdays. He truly needs a gentle, consistent presence throughout the day. He benefits from structure, positive reinforcement, and a steady presence, and is happiest when someone is nearby to share companionship and reassurance. Ernest does not do well with crates, kennels, or gates, as he experiences barrier frustration. He will need a home that can provide him with freedom of movement in a safe and supportive way.

Ongoing Health

Ernest requires daily medication, including Keppra and Prozac, to manage epilepsy and support his anxiety. His seizures are generally well managed with consistency and care.

Training & Support

Ernest can become overstimulated and may vocalize or struggle to settle, especially when there is a lot of movement or change. He thrives with frequent walks and hikes, which help him feel balanced and fulfilled. While he is good with other dogs, he may need thoughtful introductions and continued guidance to keep play balanced and comfortable.
