Vaquero is a 5-year-old, 46 lb Black Mouth Cur mix who is a true testament to resilience and the power of love. He was found in October 2025 near the Texas/Mexico border in Edinburg, in terrible condition with severe mange and severely underweight. It's hard to imagine what he must have gone through, but Vaquero has truly blossomed into a completely different dog! This once shy and fearful boy is now a social butterfly, eager to greet people and soak up all the affection he can get.
Ideal Home
Vaquero would be a wonderful companion for a family with older, gentle children. While he enjoys playtime, his true passion is relaxation and quality time. He's the ultimate "Netflix and chill" kind of dog, always ready for a cozy nap, a tasty treat, or a good show on TV. He also gets along swimmingly with other dogs of all sizes and has shown to be fine with cats!
Ongoing Health
Vaquero has made a full recovery from his past health issues and shows no long-term effects. He is neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped, and up-to-date on all age-appropriate vaccinations, flea/tick prevention, and dewormer. He will receive a clean bill of health from a veterinarian prior to transport.
Training & Support
Vaquero is already house-trained and is a master of relaxation. His main support needs will revolve around continued positive reinforcement and providing him with plenty of opportunities for cuddles and comfort.

Transporation
Vaquero is currently in a temporary sanctuary near the Texas/Mexico border. We do not adopt pets within Texas due to the high euthanasia rates. Instead, we happily arrange transport to the Central US and East Coast every 2-3 weeks. This includes stops in:

- Wells and Brattleboro, VT
- Willington, New Haven, and Dayville, CT
- Port Chester, NY
- Dayton and Akron, OH
- Grove City and Bloomsburg, PA
- Ridgefield and Mt Laurel, NJ
- White Marsh/Elkton, MD
- Falls Church, VA
The adoption fee of $395 includes this long-distance transport. We are dedicated to ensuring Vaquero finds the perfect fit for his forever home.
