Chico Diablo

Chico Diablo is a stunning black and tan Doberman with cropped ears and a docked tail. He is lean, muscular, and athletic, enjoying playing with balls and being outdoors. He is affectionate and clingy with his foster family, always seeking attention and affection. Chico is crate trained, sleeps in his crate overnight, and is leash trained, knowing basic commands. He responds well to verbal commands.

This sweet and spicy Doberman is looking for a loving home where he can thrive. He would benefit from a fenced-in yard to exercise and express his playful nature. While not necessary, a home with another medium to large female dog would be comforting to Chico.

Chico came to us with some emotional baggage after losing his home and being confused at the shelter. He was initially fearful and would use his teeth to ask for space when his collar was grabbed, a behavior we attribute to potential past mishandling. After careful decompression and building trust in a home environment, Chico has blossomed. He is now trusting of people but will need confident owners to establish clear boundaries for his safety. Due to his sensitivity to having his collar grabbed, we do not recommend a home with small children. Chico is sensitive to yelling and is not a dominant personality. He can be reactive to noises like alarms and people outside his property, and he will bark at them.

Chico has been neutered, is up-to-date on vaccines, has been treated for heartworm, and is on prevention. He is now at a healthy weight with a shiny coat and is motivated by food.

Ideal Home

Chico would thrive in a home that can provide him with affection and a fenced-in yard for exercise. He would be comfortable with another medium to large female dog but it is not a requirement. Due to his past experiences, we do not recommend a home with small children.

Chico is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, has been treated for heartworm and is on prevention.

Training & Support

Chico is crate trained, leash trained, and knows basic commands. He responds well to verbal commands. He can be reactive to loud noises and people outside his property. Due to past handling, he may react if his collar is pulled or grabbed; owners should be mindful of this and provide confident leadership. He is sensitive to yelling. He may fence fight with other male dogs and we do not recommend dog parks or a home with another male dog. He is gentle and playful with female dogs.

Transportation

Chico is currently being fostered in Texas. Adoption fees include transport to the Midwest or to the states of NJ, CT, VA, and VT via our pet transport partners.
