Meet Sammy — a handsome German Shepherd mix with a playful personality, a smart mind, and just enough stubbornness to keep life interesting. At around 70-80 pounds and 3-5 years old, Sammy is the kind of dog who looks impressive but is really just a goofy oversized companion who wants to enjoy life with his people. His smarts mean he learns quickly, and he responds well to clear boundaries, though he may occasionally pretend he didn't hear you the first time if he thinks he has a better idea. Sammy rides wonderfully in the car and would happily join you for adventures, errands, or weekend outings. At home, he is surprisingly easy to live with. He does well spending time on his own, isn't destructive, and settles nicely when given structure and routine. When Sammy first arrived, he did have some marking habits indoors, but he has stopped marking over time. He responds very well to correction, and a firm "no" is usually enough to remind him of the rules. Consistency and routine have helped him tremendously. He absolutely needs a secure fenced yard to truly be happy. Sammy enjoys being outside, stretching his legs, exploring, and keeping an eye on his surroundings. He stays in the yard well and enjoys having space to roam and play. He is not destructive, nor does he dig holes in the yard. Sammy is playful and fun-loving, but he will need continued leash training since he can pull when excited. He is a strong boy who doesn't always realize his own size, so ongoing training and structure will help him become the best version of himself. If you're looking for a loyal companion with personality, intelligence, and a playful spirit — a dog whose equal parts adventure buddy and lovable goofball — Sammy may be exactly who you've been searching for.
Ideal Home
Sammy absolutely needs a secure fenced yard to truly be happy. Because of his enthusiasm and size, Sammy would likely do best with older or school-aged children who won't accidentally get bowled over during one of his happy moments.
