Meet Maria! This beautiful 4-year-old Rottweiler is a true testament to resilience and the power of second chances. Weighing around 80 pounds, Maria's journey has been one of strength and bravery. She arrived at a city shelter in March with severe injuries, likely from being hit by a car, and underwent surgery for a broken femur. Despite her ordeal, she remained gentle and courageous. Now, fully recovered and thriving in foster care, Maria is patiently waiting for her forever family. She's a well-mannered girl who is house and crate trained, sleeps soundly in her crate, walks beautifully on a leash, and has a gentle touch when taking treats. While not a frequent barker, she will alert you to visitors.
Ideal Home
Maria would do best in a calm home with children 16 years and older who can respect her need for gradual introductions and personal space. She can be a happy only dog or would enjoy a canine companion her size or larger. Due to her size and play style, she is not a good fit for homes with small dogs. A family that works from home or spends a lot of time at home would be ideal, as Maria thrives on companionship. Because she is a counter surfer, keeping snacks out of reach is recommended. Maria also cannot be left alone unsupervised and must be crated.
Ongoing Health
Maria is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and heartworm negative. She has fully recovered from her past injuries.
Training & Support
Maria is house and crate trained and walks well on a leash. She is naturally cautious and slow to warm up to new people, so she will thrive with a patient family willing to give her time and space to build trust. She has an alpha personality, so proper introductions to other dogs and confident leadership are important. She is a counter surfer and needs to be crated when unsupervised.
