Meet Sage!
Sage is a charming 3-year-old, 18-pound Bichon mix who's ready to be your devoted shadow! He's recently had a fresh haircut after his previous owner would shave him down for summer beach trips. Sage is a loving and needy companion who thrives on having his people around. He has so much love to give and gets a bit down when left alone for extended periods. He gets along well with other dogs of all sizes and has shown a loving nature towards all the children he's met, though he does need to be with kids who are respectful and understand how to interact gently with a pet. Sage also surprised us with his outgoing nature towards strangers, seeking out attention from everyone he meets! He does seem to lack confidence at times, but with a patient and loving approach, he's sure to blossom. Sage has a low to medium energy level; he enjoys short walks and playtime with his canine pals, but is also happy to lounge and cuddle with you or simply be in the same room. He’s a gentle soul who takes treats softly and has no issues sharing toys or treats.
Ideal Home
Sage would thrive in a home where someone is usually present. He’s looking for a family who can provide him with consistent companionship and patience as he adjusts. He would do best with children who are respectful and know how to interact gently with pets.
Ongoing Health
Sage is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. He is also heartworm negative. He was recently neutered (07/01), and we are hopeful this will help with his marking behavior indoors. He will require regular grooming appointments every 6 weeks, which involves time and financial commitment.
Training & Support
Sage needs a confident and consistent family to help him with his training. While he’s crate trained in terms of potty habits, he does get whiny when crated and settles down after a bit when he can't see his people. He is working on his leash walking skills and can pull when excited about something. He is also a bit fearful of bikes and motorcycles, and may stop walking if startled. While he was reportedly potty trained, he has been marking indoors and may need time to adjust, especially after his recent neutering.

Sage is located in Hampton, VA. He can be adopted within a 2-hour driving radius, and transportation may be available within that area.
