Hi, I'm Odie! I'm a handsome 4-year-old, 65-pound black Rottweiler mix with a heart full of love, just waiting for my perfect person. My journey started a little rough – I was found as a tiny puppy by the side of the road with my siblings. While they found homes, I stayed with someone special, which is likely where my anxieties began. But don't worry, I'm working hard every day to be the best boy I can be!
Ideal Home
I'm looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who is patient, steady, and confident. Someone who understands fear-based behaviors and can set clear boundaries while still being gentle. I'm not a match for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner. I need someone who will help me feel safe and not overwhelmed. While I've been sweet with a five-month-old baby, I haven't been around other children, so older, dog-savvy children (14+) would be best. I am not good with cats. My anxiety can make me protective of my people, and I may bark or growl at strangers. I also struggle with my crate, finding it scary, and I do best when I have access to just one room when left alone.
Ongoing Health
I am neutered and house-trained. To help manage my anxiety, I am currently on Reconcile, and being neutered has also been a great help.
Training & Support
I know commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake," and I really do want to please! My anxiety can show up in different ways. I can be protective, and I may bark or growl at strangers. Since a baby joined the family, I've been more stressed and have sometimes gotten into things like trash or random objects. This isn't because I'm trying to be bad, but because I'm overwhelmed and unsure how to cope. My family has tried hard, but they realize I need more time, structure, and confidence than they can currently provide. I had a single bite incident when my owner was pulling me away from the screen door as I was barking at the mailman, and I turned and bit her hand. I would do best going to a home that will provide me with training to teach me that I can relax around strangers and do not need to defend the household.
