Luna, a charming 6-year-old female English Cream Dachshund, weighs 11 lbs and has a smooth coat. She is spayed and up-to-date on all her vaccinations, including DHPP until 4/16/25 and Rabies until 3/26/24. Luna came to us from a breeder when she experienced back issues. After a veterinary evaluation, it was determined she wasn't a candidate for surgery. Through physical therapy and acupuncture, Luna has learned to "spine walk," a reflex that allows her to walk and stand despite paralysis. She's a determined girl who uses ramps like a pro and deserves a home that celebrates her resilience!
Luna is a joyful pup who loves waking up to belly rubs and a happy dance when called "pretty girl." Her mornings are filled with playful wrestling with her toys and her foster siblings. She also enjoys quiet moments cuddling with her foster sisters, sunbathing, and playing with her favorite rubber squeaky toys. You can see her determination and happiness in her videos!
Ideal Home
Luna needs a home with a securely fenced yard to safely strengthen her legs, as she is quite fast. She would thrive in a home where someone is present most of the time. Experience with IVDD and spinal walking dogs is essential, and potential adopters must know how to express a bladder. She would love to have another small, young dog to play with. Homes with apartments, high-rises, or condos are not suitable for Luna.
Ongoing Health
Luna has IVDD and is not a candidate for surgery. She has learned to spine walk and will require ongoing care and management for her condition. Her adopter will need to have experience with a "downed" dog and know how to express her bladder.
Training & Support
Luna is house-trained to a strict schedule or uses a diaper and is crate-trained. She is not leash-trained. Her adopter will need to be experienced with IVDD and understand how to manage her specific needs.
