My name is Stella, and I'm a sweet and shy 4-year-old girl weighing about 17 pounds. I was released from a breeder and am now in foster care, learning to live with people and discover what being a dog is all about. It took me some time to warm up to my foster humans, but with patience and tasty treats, I'm starting to come out of my shell. I love observing my foster siblings and learning the daily routine, and while I'm not quite ready to join their playtime, I enjoy watching them chase toys. I'm still a bit unsure about my kennel, and I might let out a few squeaks, but I do settle in. The backyard is my favorite place to explore, though I have a tendency to try and eat everything, so my foster mom is working with me on leash walks to help me learn what's a snack and what's not. I'm a professional couch potato and enjoy watching TV, and when I feel comfortable, I love to snuggle up next to you for belly scratches.
Ideal Home
I would thrive in a calm, quiet household where I can continue to build my confidence. A home with an older, established dog would be wonderful, as I look to them for guidance. I need a patient family who understands my shy nature and can provide a predictable routine. I am not suited for a home with young children.
Ongoing Health
I had to have 9 teeth extracted and need my meals softened with water to make them easier to chew. I also have some alopecia on the tips of my ears, which is clearing up.
Training & Support
I am working on housetraining and am motivated by treats and a consistent routine. I am also learning to be more comfortable on a leash and am doing well as long as I am not startled. I ride well in the car and am good with other dogs, though I'm not quite ready to play with them yet. My reactions to cats have not been tested. I am shy with strangers.
