Bear is a 15-year-old dog with a heart full of love and a spirit ready for his forever home. Despite his age and special needs, Bear is incredibly affectionate, bossy in the cutest way, and will keep you laughing with his big personality. He's looking for a patient and compassionate adopter who sees past his disabilities and is ready to give him the care he deserves.
Ideal Home
Bear would thrive in a home without stairs and with a fenced yard for his curious nature. Hardwood or other hard-surface floors are a big plus as he loves to scoot around. He would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time, ideally someone retired or working from home, to provide the companionship he craves and maintain his therapy routine. He might also enjoy the company of another friendly dog.
Ongoing Health
Bear is completely toothless and has IVDD, which affects the use of his back legs. He is currently undergoing weekly physical therapy, including laser therapy and water treadmill sessions, which are recommended to continue through the end of August. His adopter should be committed to continuing his rehabilitation with recommended at-home exercises. Bear also has reduced bladder and bowel control due to his IVDD, so occasional accidents are to be expected. He is learning to use a wheelchair and would benefit from continued support in building his confidence with it.
Training & Support
Bear has some separation anxiety and would do best in a home where he isn't left alone for long periods. He is also learning to gain confidence using his wheelchair. Patience and compassion will be key when caring for him, especially with his occasional accidents and his need for ongoing therapy.
