Barbeque and his sister Cosmic spent their entire lives with their mom and were dearly loved. But their family was living in housing that did not allow dogs, and neighbors began reporting their barking. Facing the possibility of surrendering them to a shelter, her son reached out to us, desperate to find another option.
We talked through every possible alternative, courtesy listing them, helping with pet rent, trying to keep them out of the shelter system. The dogs were being kept hidden in a bedroom, using pee pads, and he just wanted a better life for them.
From the moment Barbeque and Cosmic arrived at FFF, they struggled. They were scared, having lived such a sheltered lif"e. Heartbreakingly, Cosmic became ill, and after spending a week hospitalized receiving advanced treatment, she passed away.
Barbeque is now without his beloved sister, and we are looking for a special family who will give him the time he needs to trust and feel safe again. He is currently on a two-week Frosted Fling, but prior to that, he went on a weekend Field Trip. His foster mom shared:
"Barbeque is a super sweet snuggle bug in need of gentle reassurance and quality time with his human. He asked me to pick him up often and simply backed away when he did not want to be picked up.
During our weekend together, we went on a little hike, watched tv at home, and hung out in the kitchen. He liked to watch me cook while hoping for scraps.
Barbeque enjoyed being carried and checking out the sights while hiking. He was able to hike 2-3 miles, and has a moderate energy level, but he seems to prefer shorter walks. He did not react to other dogs that we passed."
Stay tuned for updates from this little cutie's Fling!
