Hi, I'm Odie! I'm a 4-year-old, 65-pound black Rottweiler mix with a heart full of love to give, even though my start in life was a bit rough. I was found as a tiny puppy with my siblings, and while they found their forever homes, I stayed with someone special. That early experience has left me with some anxiety and fear, but I'm working hard every day to overcome it! I'm a playful, smart boy who loves my toys and knows commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake." I truly want to please, and with the right guidance, I know I can continue to learn and grow.
Ideal Home
I'm looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who is patient, steady, and confident. Someone who understands fear-based behaviors and can set clear boundaries while still being gentle. I'm not a match for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner. I would do best in a household without young children under 14 years of age. I'm not good with cats. While I did well when boarded with other dogs, I haven't lived with them, so I'd prefer to be the only dog in the home. I struggle with crates and prefer to have access to just one room when left alone.
Ongoing Health
I am neutered and house-trained. I am currently on Reconcile to help manage my anxiety, which has also been helped by being neutered.
Training & Support
My anxiety can manifest in different ways, including protectiveness towards my people, which might lead to barking or growling at strangers. I can sometimes get into things like trash when I'm feeling overwhelmed. I also have a history of redirecting to those around me when overstimulated, and there has been a single bite incident when my owner was pulling me away from the screen door as I was barking at the mailman. I would do best in a home that will provide me with training to teach me that I can relax around strangers and don't need to defend the household.
