River is a 6-year-old, purebred Catahoula Leopard Dog with a heart of gold. He's a very special boy to our rescue, as our founder has known him since he was a puppy. River's previous family had to make the difficult decision to surrender him due to unforeseen life circumstances. Thankfully, River never had to experience the stress of a shelter and was immediately placed in a loving foster home. While he's adjusting to his world being turned upside down, he's proving to be an incredibly resilient and loving companion.
River is a handsome large boy, weighing in at just under 70lbs. He's a testament to his previous family's care, as he already knows basic commands like sit, down, and shake. He's fully house-trained and crate-trained, and he walks beautifully on a leash, especially with a Gentle Leader. River enjoys playtime with his toys and is always up for a good snuggle session on the couch. He has a history of getting along well with other dogs, particularly those who aren't overly dominant. Currently, he's thriving in a foster home with dogs of all sizes and ages and gets along wonderfully with them. He's also great with cats! River can be a bit wary around children and would do best in a home with no children or teenagers aged 16 and older.
Ideal Home
River would thrive in an active home that provides him with plenty of affection and attention. He needs a structured environment where he can feel like he's pleasing his people, whether through training or enjoying outdoor adventures. A fenced yard would be a bonus, but he's not suited for apartment or condo living.
Ongoing Health
River is fully vetted, meaning he's up-to-date on all vaccinations, preventative care, is neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped.
Training & Support
River already has a solid foundation in basic obedience and is well-behaved in the home and on walks. Continue to reinforce his positive behaviors and provide him with opportunities to engage his intelligence and energy.
