About Ken aka Jack

Hi, I'm Jack—though I was once called Ken, from the Barbie Litter! My story began in tough circumstances on the coast of Mexico, but thankfully, kind volunteers from Surfers for Strays found me and my mama. They provided us with food, water, medicine, and so much love, making our lives safer and showing us what kindness feels like. I eventually moved to the shelter, where I made friends, learned basic training, and discovered how wonderful it is to be safe and loved. I was even adopted and flew to the U.S., full of hope for my forever home.

Sadly, my journey wasn't quite over. I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, and my adoptive family couldn't manage it, so I returned to Mexico. Surfers for Strays never gave up on me! They took me for stem cell treatments which helped for a while, and recently, I underwent a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) surgery to ensure a pain-free life. Since my surgery, I've been back to enjoying all my favorite activities. I'm not a vet, so please reach out to Surfers for Strays for more detailed medical information.

These days, I live at the volunteer house and absolutely love it! I sleep in bed with the humans (cuddles are a must!), go on daily walks, and hang out with my dog friends. I've earned the nickname “Sweet Uncle Jack” because I'm patient and kind with all the pups. I’m also incredibly affectionate with people. I don't jump, but I’ll happily nuzzle for pets and kisses if you kneel down. I need to be close to you when I sleep or when you're working – cuddling is my top priority, even in the heat!

Ideal Home

I'd love a home with another friendly dog, but I'd also be happy with regular playdates and plenty of cuddle time with my humans.

Ongoing Health

I've undergone a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) surgery to address hip dysplasia, which promises a pain-free life. As with any surgery, there are the usual risks of arthritis in old age.

Training & Support

I'm crate-trained, housebroken, and polite around food. I know commands like Sit, Down, Paw, Turn, and Stay. While I'm not super food-driven, I love working with you to learn and please. I really enjoy sniffing, so walks with sniff breaks or a snuffle mat at home would make my day! My energy level is just right – I enjoy walks and playtime, but I'm also content to lounge by your side.
